Study in Green and Black – John White Alexander Canvas Print

Study in Green and Black – John White Alexander Canvas Print

John White Alexander made a career of painting idealized women in flowing, elegant poses, and this piece is a clear example. A young woman in an evening gown pins a piece of jewelry to her neckline, caught in a quiet, private moment. The striped skirt and the sweep of her upswept hair give the whole composition a sense of movement, part of why critics of the time called Alexander "the painter of the flowing line." He trained in Munich and worked for years in Paris and New York, becoming one of the more sought-after portraitists of his generation.

This canvas print is made from PolyCanvas fabric stretched over a sturdy wooden frame, printed with fade-proof sublimation printing and OEKO-TEX-certified inks. Made-to-order in Kolkata and shipped across India.

Frequently Asked Questions

Discover everything about our canvas prints.

What's the canvas print made from?

+

PolyCanvas fabric stretched over a sturdy wooden frame, printed with fade-proof sublimation printing and OEKO-TEX-certified inks, so there's nothing toxic in the print itself.

Will the print fade over time?

+

The sublimation printing is fade-proof by design, and holds up well under normal indoor light. Direct, constant sunlight will fade any print eventually, so we'd still avoid a spot that gets full sun all day.

How do I hang it?

+

Each canvas comes on a wooden frame, ready to hang. A single wall hook or nail through the back of the frame is usually enough.

How do I clean it?

+

A dry, soft cloth or a duster is enough for regular dust. Avoid water or cleaning sprays directly on the print.

Will the colors match what I see on my screen?

+

Screens vary a little from device to device, so there can be small differences, but we print from high-resolution source files to keep colors as close as possible to the original artwork.

Is this a real reproduction of the original artwork?

+

Yes. Each piece is printed from a high-resolution image of the original public domain painting, not a photo of a print or a low-quality scan.

Can I return or exchange this?

+

Since it's made-to-order, we can only accept returns for damage, defects, or the wrong item arriving, reported within 48 hours of delivery with photos. Full details are in our refund policy.

How long until it ships?

+

Every canvas is made-to-order, so it takes 2 to 3 business days to print and prepare before it ships from Kolkata.
